Network Services Practice Manager

Position Overview:
Govplace is seeking a engineering professional with strong leadership, delegation, mentoring skills as well as critical thinking, analytical and decision making skills. This critical role will involve direct interaction with senior management and provide direction to the Network Services Practice Area in all aspects of its performance.  You will interact with the Govplace sales teams (both FED and SLED) and Govplace partners to strategically plan how to drive revenue for the company. This position is based in Reston, VA.


Govplace is a well-established and rapidly growing systems integrator. Govplace sells, implements, and supports mission critical data security, storage and server consolidation solutions to public sector agencies. Govplace clients include federal, state and local government as well as education and healthcare.  

The Network Service Practice Manager will:

  • Provide direct support to existing Practice Area projects as an individual/direct contributor of the project team on a project supporting a Large Government Agency’s Nationwide IT Consolidation and Network Optimization Project:
    • - Review and Understand customer priorities, IT Strategic Plan,   System Lifecycle Management process, and Modernization   Project Organization.

      - Manage the development of in-process technical deliverables   and documentation consistent with the customer’s System   Lifecycle process and standards.

      - Own the subcontractor/partner management along with the    Govplace Project Manager. 

      - Negotiate and manage execution of subcontractor statements   of work to support Practice Area activities for the project.

      - Assure the on-time completion of all engineering-related    project deliverables.

  • Manage the draft-level development of a single, integrated consolidation plan that proposes priorities for consolidation, migration, and systems integration to the customer. 
    • - Assist customer as they identify their priorities for      consolidation and overall enterprise modernization. 

      -  Kick off activities to build a design and migration plan

      - Lead the identification and development of various pilot     environments to support the customer’s Network     Optimization and Modernization objectives.

  • Support in pre-sales requests and requirements, as well as proposal development and RFP response activities.
    • - Balance the needs of the business with the needs of the    customer and the needs of the team

      - Play integral role in developing the practice's business plan    including success metrics), delivery methodology,    engagement lifecycle process, sales plan and employee    management plans

      - Driving the Govplace brand for the practice area, to include    speaking at Govplace events and seminars, occasional    writing for the Govplace Blog, and other key marketing    activities as defined.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing the financial performance of a Practice Area and collaborate with key stakeholders directly to affect service opportunities.  Their hands-on leadership style will foster teamwork, high expectations and drive peak performance.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the development of customer and partner relationships to achieve mutual goals and objectives. They will have a strong comfort level preparing complicated plans, technical documents, correspondence, and briefings.  Substantial Network Infrastructure knowledge and experience is required, and knowledge of and experience applying current best practices such as ITIL, CMMI, ISO, and other frameworks is highly desirable.
The following skills and experience are required:

  • BS/BA Degree required (or equivalent work experience)
  • Cisco CCDA, CCNA.
  • Cisco Data Center specialty products.
  • Integration of process and people to ensure coherent EVM compliant.
  • Riverbed technologies.
  • Experience with multiple data storage vendors, multiple server platforms, virtualization hypervisors (VMware and Citrix).
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Services Management, ITIL Foundations certification strongly desired.
  • A recent government clearance or Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) within the last 7 years.

Ability to be cleared at a Secret Level.
